“10 Essential Black LGBTQI Leaders” – with Lorenzo Taylor – Author, Poet, Teacher, Actor, HIV/AIDS Activist

This workshop is designed for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).

Note: This is a safe space curated for those within the sole experience of the BIPOC umbrella of identity (African, Asian, Black, First Nations, Indigenous, Latinx, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander…). Thank you to our white allies for reinforcing this space.

Lorenzo Taylor will be sharing with us his personal journey & a presentation recently offered for “Black History Month.” Come and enjoy our lively discussion.

Facilitator: John Torres jonniet@comcast.net)

“10 Essential Black LGBT Leaders” – Lorenzo Taylor is a retired federal administrator for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. He volunteers for various LGBTQI community groups including Brothers of the Desert, the LGBT Community Center of the Desert, and California Men’s Gathering.  With the loss of these social outlets, he has turned his attention to online events that engage and connect our community, including anti-racism discussion groups, online games, “talent” shows, and “speed-friending” events.  During this period of isolation, he wrote and published a short gay romance novel, performed protest poetry at Black Lives Matter rallies, and helped organize an online showcase of Black gay film-makers. He is currently working on an online group cultural performance about the Black Gay experience with the Coachella Valley Rep Theater and will be teaching an online spring semester course on the history of the Civil Rights Movement for Southern Oregon University
